A lighter mood
Every weekday this semester my beautiful friend A (I’m sucking up for having posted that awful pic of us in the snow on Easter. We look like we’re 8 years old. We’re at least 9 1/2) and I have shared babysitting duties, picking up a prof’s 6 year old son J, and occasionally his older sister P (12) at the bus stop. Usually it’s only for about an hour, but a few weeks ago J’s mom asked me to watch him for an extra hour. I use the word “me” here very loosely. As it turns out, my fiance has more in common with a 6 year old than he would like to admit.
(I was less surprised. For easter I gave him a plastic yellow gun that shoots foam disks, presumably at the paper eggs it came with, but it turns out everything is a target. Even the cat.)
The guys spent the afternoon playing “Worms” on the X-box; a technicolored game with little worms that scream “surprise” in a voice not unlike that of an Oompa-Loompa when they drop bombs on other worms. To make it interesting you can name each of these worms after your friends. At some point one of them killed the worm named Iona. And giggled. The Welshman let J win most games, but when he became a bit overconfident, The Welshman put him in his place.
You can’t let a child feel too good about himself in this day and age.

I was sneaky and snapped a few photos in between my hard work babysitting these two.

They look amused. This may be when Iona worm died.
